Three days before Christmas in 1799, a young woman named Gulielma Sands disappears the night she reveals she is to marry Levi Weeks. Her lifeless body is found in a Manhattan well on January 2nd not far from her boardinghouse on Greenwich Street, New York City. When Levi was arrested for the murder, chaos ensued. The trial was New York City’s first sensational murder case, the first American trial to be transcribed and contained the first “dream team” council that included no other than Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr.
