The radio broadcast of September 2, 1945, when Japan’s surrender to the U.S. and our allies became official. Japan had agreed to surrender on August 15, but President Truman declared September 2 as VJ Day in the U.S. to mark the formal signing of the surrender documents aboard the USS Missouri.
